My Project of Choice was to draw sand dollars! I chose sand dollars because I recently went to Stinson Beach and collected about 15 different sand dollars from the beach. My goal was to choose my favorite sand dollar and draw the front and back of it, right next to each other. I used black charcoal to draw the sand dollar, so that I could smear and create the shadows and small details created by the ocean. My biggest challenge was spacing. As you can see, the sand dollars are an awkward distance from each other and the shadow on the right sand dollar is much bigger than the one on the right. Although this looks a little funky, I do like the sizing and how realistic my shadows look. Overall, I learned a lot about how to control and draw with charcoal. This artwork is now framed and hanging in a hallway of my house. I would definitely like to practice charcoal drawings more.
